Witch-Hunts in Basel

This tour offers an unusual perspective on late medieval and early modern Basel. Based upon a couple of historical court proceedings, different characteristics of the witch-hunts in Basel are explored. For what reasons was a woman accused of witchcraft? How did a court case proceed in the 16th and 17th Century? What happened after a person was led into Basel's well furnished torture chamber? And where were witches executed? On our stroll through the Old Town we get to know some moving individual cases, thereby putting a face to a problematic chapter of history.
